The Port of Málaga Dismantles the Vessel "Rese", Last Material Witness of the Old Shipyard of Mario López
The Port of Málaga has dismantled the vessel "Rese", the last remaining witness of the old shipyard of Mario López, which was dismantled in 2023. The vessel, measuring 17.66 meters in length, was removed from the water on October 6.
According to veteran maritime journalist Juan Carlos Cilveti Puche in Málaga Hoy, the work was carried out by the company Desguaces de Embarcaciones Málaga, specialized in this type of operation. Before starting the dismantling, approximately 3,500 liters of diesel and dirty water were removed from the vessel to prevent possible spills.
After hoisting the vessel, which weighed 46.98 tons, the items remaining on board were removed, and its destruction began. The operation was conducted under the supervision of the responsible company and technicians from the Port Authority of Málaga.
Built in 1976 at the Viuda e Hijos de José San Román shipyards in Santoña (Cantabria), the vessel initially worked as a fishing boat. Later, it was acquired by Mario López to perform auxiliary work at his shipyard in Málaga.
Subsequently, it was sold to a diving company based in Algeciras. After remaining in Málaga's waters without maintenance, it suffered a leak in early 2026. The Port Authority took charge of the vessel and decided to proceed with its dismantling.
With its removal, the last material memory of the old shipyard of Mario López in the Port of Málaga disappears.
