The World's Largest Floating Bookstore Arrives in Gran Canaria
Flagged in Malta, the ship “Logos Hope” (IMO 7302914), the world's largest floating bookstore, is back in the port of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, having arrived from Monrovia (Liberia) and will stay for two weeks, including a dry dock at ASTICAN for cleaning and painting.
On board, five thousand book titles are offered at affordable prices. Entry is free, and visiting hours are from 10 a.m. Wednesday to Saturday and from 2 p.m. Sunday to Tuesday. The ship is owned by a Christian evangelical organization based in Mosbach (Germany), founded in 1970, and its crew is made up of volunteers.
We have known several ships as floating bookstores. We especially remember the old ocean liner “Doulos,” formerly “Franca C”; the first “Logos II,” sunk in 1988 in Chilean waters and still there; the second “Logos II,” formerly “Antonio Lázaro,” from Trasmediterránea, and the current “Logos Hope,” formerly “Gustav Vasa,” in service since May 1973.
