A Wave Strike Causes Damage to the Catamaran 'Eleanor Roosevelt'
“The cafeteria shelves were on the floor and products were floating on the water that entered” through the stern of the catamaran “Eleanor Roosevelt”, when it was making the Denia-Ibiza route yesterday afternoon in bad weather and “was hit by the storm at sea,” reports the digital edition of the Periódico de Ibiza y Formentera.
According to the aforementioned newspaper, “several passengers reported that the boat was swaying in a frightening way and in one of the waves, water entered and the cafeteria collapsed.”
It adds that “upon going down to the hold, several passengers found that there were vehicles with damage.”
Balearia indicates that “despite the bad sea conditions and what happened, no injuries were reported.”
The storm affecting the Balearics these days has reached a yellow alert level for rough seas between Ibiza and Formentera, with northeast winds of force 7 and waves between three and four meters, especially in Formentera, reports Aemet. The bad weather has forced the closure of the port of La Savina for several hours. Recorded gusts at Ibiza airport reached 68 km/h, while 66 km/h were recorded in Formentera and 53 km/h in Sant Antoni.
