Voltaic Defense Tests Armed USV for Weeks-Long Surveillance Missions Powered by Solar Energy
The American company Voltaic Defense has tested at sea the unmanned surface vehicle (USV) "AEU39" equipped with a weapon system designed for air defense missions and powered by photovoltaic energy.
The vessel measures 12 meters in length and features an electric propulsion system powered by solar panels. Additionally, it incorporates a 300 kWh battery bank, allowing it to keep its operational systems active for long periods of activity.
In the demonstration, the vessel was equipped with a Moog Space and Defense turret to demonstrate its viability as a long-duration surveillance and air defense platform with no crew on board.
The "AEU39" vessel can reach a maximum speed of 22 knots and has a range of over 5,000 nautical miles.
