The CSOV vessel “Vole au Vent” successfully completes the installation of a new wind farm on the Atlantic coast of France
In the race for European offshore wind energy, France is making significant strides. The CSOV vessel "Vole au Vent", operated by Jan De Nul, has successfully completed the installation of the last turbine of the offshore wind farm Îles d’Yeu et de Noirmoutier, on the Atlantic coast of France.
The CSOV vessel "Vole au Vent" (IMO 9655315), flagged in Luxembourg, installed a total of 61 turbines that are now operational. With this milestone, the project is considered complete and the French nation adds another wind farm.
The offshore wind farm, developed by Ocean Winds, a joint venture of EDP Renewables and Engie, has been constructed in collaboration with Siemens Gamesa. The installation is located between the islands of Yeu and Noirmoutier, off the French coast of Saint-Nazaire.
The installation of the wind turbines took almost a year, since work began in May of last year. The farm will have a total capacity of 500 MW and will be able to generate enough renewable electricity to supply around 800,000 people per year. After successfully completing its work, the vessel "Vole au Vent" is now heading to Le Tréport, where it will contribute to the construction of a new EMYN wind farm in the coming months.
