Vard, Norwegian subsidiary of Fincantieri, secures a contract worth over 220 million euros to renew the Trinity House fleet
Vard, a subsidiary of Fincantieri, has secured a contract worth over 220 million euros to build two multifunctional vessels intended for the maintenance of buoys and lighthouses for Trinity House, the authority responsible for navigation in England, Wales, the Channel Islands, and Gibraltar.
The contract has been awarded following a public tender and is part of Trinity House's plan to renew its fleet. The new vessels will replace the current "THV Patricia" and "THV Galatea," aiming to enhance maritime signaling services and the maintenance of essential infrastructure in UK waters.
In addition to performing buoy and lighthouse maintenance tasks, they will be able to carry out hydrographic work and participate in emergency operations, allowing them to perform various functions. They will be built with the VARD 9 601 design.
The new vessels will be equipped with hybrid propulsion and energy storage systems using batteries, which will reduce fuel consumption and emissions. They will also be prepared to use methanol as fuel in the future. Their delivery is scheduled for the second and fourth quarters of 2029.
