“Valiant Lady” Debuts in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria
The megacruiser “Valiant Lady” (IMO 9805336), registered in the Bahamas, has arrived this morning for the first time at the port of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. It is one of the most interesting new additions this year in terms of tourist industry vessels. On March 23, it arrived at the port of A Coruña, being the first Spanish port of its maritime life, and yesterday it was in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
As the reader can appreciate, it has a striking aesthetic that does not go unnoticed in the current trend of naval architecture, evoking both passions and rejections; however, as can be seen, it leaves no one indifferent.
Owned by Virgin Voyages, the company founded by Richard Branson, it was built at the Fincantieri shipyard in Sestri Ponente and is the second of a series of four units. Delivered in July 2021, its entry into service has been delayed from initial forecasts due to the health and financial circumstances of the coronavirus.
Weighing 110,000 gross tons, it measures 278 m in length and 38 m in beam. It has a capacity for 2,770 passengers distributed in 1,400 cabins, plus 1,160 crew members. It is powered by a Wärtsila-ABB diesel-electric system, which provides a total installed power of 85,000 horsepower and allows it to maintain a speed of 21 knots.
