The Uruguayan Training Ship “Capitán Miranda” in Cuba
The Uruguayan training ship ROU “Capitán Miranda” has made a stop at the port of Havana, Cuba, during its thirty-first training cruise, although in this case it is the longest since its return to navigation in 2018, after seven years of renovations and an investment of just over six million dollars.
It is a beautiful ship built at the shipyard of the Spanish Society of Naval Construction, Matagorda (Cádiz), which entered service in July 1930 as a hydrographic vessel. In 1976, when it was awaiting scrapping, the very wise decision was made to transform it into a training ship, rigged as a three-masted schooner with capacity for 94 people, including 26 midshipmen, and since 1978 it has been an emblem of Uruguay.
