Unexpected Docking of the Ship “Hidden Gem” in Granadilla
After several days positioned northwest of Tenerife, off the Roques de Anaga, where it has been testing dynamic positioning systems, the drilling vessel “Hidden Gem” (IMO 9445150) has docked at the port of Granadilla. An unplanned stop, but it will be brief, as it has a contract and will soon head back to sea.
Flagged in Malta and acquired in March 2020, the vessel “Hidden Gem” (formerly “Vitoria 10000”) is the latest addition to Allseas' fleet and is equipped with equipment for the detection and extraction of underwater mining, serving The Metals Company. The transformation works were carried out at the port of Rotterdam, where the vessel arrived in September 2021.
According to information provided by The Metals Company to the Nasdaq index, the vessel “Hidden Gem” is the first of its kind in the world prepared for the capture of polymetallic nodules from the seabed and their subsequent analysis, with special dedication and interest in high levels of nickel, manganese, copper, and cobalt metals used for manufacturing batteries for electric vehicles and renewable energy technologies.
