Two Guppy Class Submarines Survive in the Taiwanese Navy
In the early 1970s, the USN began to retire Guppy and Balao class submarines, with many allied nations benefiting from this. Years went by, and after many years of good service, they were decommissioned in their new navies, but to this day, two of that legendary series remain in service, specifically in the Taiwanese Navy, the “Hai Shinh” 791 (ex-USS Cutlass, 478) and the “Hai Pao” 792 (ex-USS Tusk, 426).
Ours were from the same batch, which were scrapped almost 40 years ago, while these remain operational. We attach an image of our beloved S32 “Isaac Peral” and another current one of the Taiwanese “Hai Pao”, which as can be seen is still in good shape... How beautiful the Guppies were!
