Two Barges and the Tugboat “Pacific Hickory” in Tenerife, Heading to Rotterdam
It is common to see the passage of atypical tows through the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and one of them is that of two barges measuring 73 m in length and 24 m in beam each, which have arrived in the wake of the tugboat “Pacific Hickory,” flagged in Dominica, and were docked at the Bufadero dock while the tug took on fuel and gave the crew a rest before continuing the journey to Rotterdam.
No less interesting is the tugboat “Pacific Hickory,” with a deadweight of 679 tons, a veteran with 43 years of maritime life. Built at the Saint John Shipbuilding yard in New Brunswick (Canada), it entered service in 1973 and has previously been named “Atlantic Hickory” and “Irwing Miami.” It is a design by engineer Robert Allan Sr. and is powered by two EMD 645E7 engines, with a power of 7,200 horsepower and a pull of 100 tons.
