Twelve Summer Trips on the Canary-Madeira-Portimao Route
A total of twelve trips will be made by the ferry “Volcán de Timanfaya” on the Canary-Madeira-Portimao route, thus fulfilling the contract with the Madeira Navigation Company, which markets the trips through its website. The first rotation, carried out between July 8 and 10, has been a complete success, with just over four hundred passengers in each direction on the Funchal-Portimao-Funchal route.
The ferry “Volcán de Timanfaya” has been known to the public in Madeira since 2006, as it was the one that started the route when Naviera Armas opened the door to maritime connection between the Canary Islands, Madeira, and Portimao. This is the second year in the agreement with the Madeira Navigation Company, and the forecast is quite attractive, given that the percentages of passengers and cars on the first two trips have increased considerably compared to last summer.
It is worth highlighting the quality of the onboard service, where passengers traveling to and from Madeira enjoy a ship that has been recently remodeled, and the Onboard Services management of Naviera Armas has implemented various visible improvements for the passengers. Additionally, an attractive opportunity opens up for the public in the Canary Islands, as Madeira is a very interesting tourist destination full of qualities.
Built at the Barreras shipyard in Vigo and in service since March 2005, the “Volcán de Timanfaya” vessel registers 17,343 gross tons and 142.40 m in width, powered by two Wärtsila engines totaling 16,800 kW and maintaining a speed of 21 knots. It has a capacity for 1,000 passengers, of which 206 are in cabins, 300 cars, and 1,220 linear meters of rolling cargo. IMO Code 9281334.
