The semi-submersible vessel “Trustee” transports monopiles from Bilbao for the Hornsea 3 offshore wind farm
The semi-submersible vessel “Trustee” (IMO 8902955), flagged in Malta, is making various trips between Bilbao and Teesworks (United Kingdom) to transport the monopiles that will be part of the future European offshore wind farm Hornsea 3, developed by the Danish energy company Ørsted.
These large structures, intended for the turbines, are being manufactured by Haizea Wind Group at their facilities in the Biscayan capital. The project includes a total of 197 monopiles, which will be transported to the wind farm in several batches.
The first six units were already transported last February aboard the vessel “CY Interocean II” (IMO 9802982), flagged in South Korea, in two operations covering about 960 nautical miles.
Now the transportation work is being carried out by the semi-submersible vessel “Trustee,” from the Dutch company Boskalis, which has already begun its journey to Teesworks.
Each of these monopiles is approximately 90 meters long and weighs over 1,600 tons.
