Triple Arrival at the Port of Tenerife and the Deserted City
Three tourist cruise ships have docked today at the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. This is common at this time of year, as it is the peak winter season and the schedule often leads to frequent overlaps until April of next year. The ships “Celebrity Equinox,” “Saga Sapphire,” and “MSC Musica” have all arrived at the southern pier. Together, they bring around five thousand tourists and just over two thousand crew members. Some have gone on excursions booked on board or on their own, which is likely cheaper.
The cruise passengers who stayed in the capital have wandered through a nearly deserted city, as most shops in the city center are closed. The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council is aware of the schedule in advance and we believe that activities should be planned for days when there is significant tourist movement, involving the local community as well. Not everyone visits El Teide and the La Orotava valley.
