Trasmediterránea Offers 25,000 Daily Seats in the 2016 OPE
Trasmediterránea's services for the Operation Passage of the Strait (OPE) are being reinforced this summer, with the company allocating a total of ten ships and offering up to 25,000 daily seats in each direction, connecting the south of the peninsula – Algeciras, Almería, and Málaga – with Ceuta, Melilla, Morocco, and Algeria.
Between Algeciras and Tangier Med, Trasmediterránea has scheduled three vessels: the ferry “Ciudad de Málaga” and the catamarans “Alborán” and “Alcántara Dos,” which will reinforce periods of higher demand, offering up to 10 daily rotations on this route. Between Algeciras and Ceuta, the catamaran “Milenium Dos” will increase from four to five daily rotations during peak demand periods (late July and early August), which has already started operating every weekend.
Trasmediterránea is also strengthening connections to Melilla with the high-speed vessel “Almudaina Dos,” which has a capacity for 714 passengers and 175 cars, with accommodations in tourist and club class, a shop, and catering services from bars and telepizza. The first departure of the high-speed vessel will be on July 1 and will continue until August 31, with departures every Friday from Melilla at 5 PM and Sundays from Málaga at 7:30 PM.
To meet demand, high-speed vessel departures between Melilla and Almería have also been scheduled for July 30; August 1, 2, 30, and 31; and September 1. Double departures are planned for other dates from Málaga to Melilla on Friday, July 29, Friday, August 26, and Sunday, August 28; and from Melilla to Málaga on Sunday, August 28. This vessel is expected to reinforce with additional departures as necessary to meet all demand during the OPE.
The ferries operating with Melilla, “Fortuny” (Melilla-Málaga) will maintain its usual daily schedule, and the schedule for the vessel “Sorolla” will be reinforced, which will make one additional daily rotation between Almería and Melilla during the periods from August 23 to September 4.
Reinforcement with Algeria and Nador
Another new feature is the reinforcement of connections between Almería and Algeria, to which the company allocates a vessel year-round. The vessel “Vronskiy” will, starting this Friday, June 24, make three weekly departures to Ghazaouet and two weekly departures to Oran, instead of the three departures it makes in the low season (two to Ghazaouet and one to Oran).
The reinforcement on the Almería-Nador (Morocco) line will also begin this Friday, June 24. Trasmediterránea is adding another vessel to the connections with Nador and will operate daily with two ferries, “Almariya” and “Las Palmas de Gran Canaria,” between both ports.
