Trasmediterránea Allocates High Speed to the Alcudia-Ciudadela Route
The catamaran “Alcántara Dos” has been docked at the port of Alcudia since yesterday, ready to start the high-speed Alcudia-Ciudadela route from July 15. Trasmediterránea enters a competitive market between the ports of the islands of Mallorca and Menorca and will operate year-round. The strategy of the nearly century-old shipping company will allow it to strengthen its position in the Balearics.
Since March 2006, this vessel has been in service with Trasmediterránea. It has operated on various routes, mainly in the Strait area, Alboran Sea, and Valencia-Ibiza. It has a capacity for 536 passengers and 150 cars and maintains a speed of 30 knots, powered by four Ruston engines that drive an equal number of water jets. This is a catamaran of 4,859 gross tons and 78.60 m in length, built by Austal Ships (Australia) and entered service in May 1994.
