Trasmediterránea, a firm guarantor of the Canary Banana
Naviera Armas Trasmediterránea has reintroduced the roll-on/roll-off vessel ‘Villa de Tazacorte’ to the Cádiz-Canary Islands route, following its annual dry dock at Astander. On Saturday, March 26, it entered service at the Cádiz port, starting its weekly rotation with stops at the ports of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and Santa Cruz de La Palma, the company reported in a statement.
This vessel has the largest cargo capacity in the Spanish merchant fleet. It has 3,400 linear meters in the hold and on deck, as well as 209 sockets for the electrical connections of refrigerated units that maintain the cold chain and guarantee the fruit export from the Canary Islands. A testament to this commitment and support for the sector is the logo of “Plátano de Canarias” in large letters on both sides. The vessel maintains a speed of 23 knots, which comfortably ensures the weekly rotation.
The general director of Naviera Armas Trasmediterránea, Fernando Val, recently visited the islands of La Palma and Tenerife, along with other company executives, and held various meetings with producers. As a result of these meetings, the shipping company's commitment to the banana sector in the Canary Islands has been strengthened, and common interests with exporters from both islands have been consolidated.
In Tenerife, meetings have been held with COPLACA and in La Palma with Banaguna, COSEPAL, Europlátano, Agrícola El Remo, CUPALMA, and ASPROCAN. With all of them, issues of special relevance have been discussed, such as market quotas, the commitment to local products, mutual support among companies of Canarian origin, and the capacity and service of Naviera Armas Trasmediterránea, with the punctuality, reliability, and attention it offers to its users.
