Trasmediterránea Company Celebrates 100 Years
Today marks the 100th anniversary of the signing of the founding deed of Trasmediterránea Company. On November 25, 1916, the four directors of the founding shipping companies, Jose Juan Dómine (Correos de África Shipping Company), Vicente Ferrer Peset (Ferrer Peset Brothers), Joaquín María Tintoré (Tintoré Shipping Line), and Enrique García Corrons (Navigation and Industry), signed the protocol granted before the notary Antonio Sasot Mejías, of the Illustrious College of Barcelona. The new shipping company began its operations in January 1917,
In the following three years, other shipping companies joined: Marítima, Mahonesa Shipping Company; Isleña Marítima, Maritime Company of Barcelona, and Vinuesa Anonymous Company of Seville; and in 1930, the Interinsular Canary Correos Shipping Company joined. In addition to the fleets contributed by the shipping companies, a new construction plan was added between 1927 and 1929, in which Trasmediterránea incorporated ten new ships, some of which were built at the Unión Naval de Levante shipyard, founded in 1924, whose main shareholders were the promoters of Trasmediterránea.
Coinciding with the start of its journeys, “in 2017 we will commemorate the Centenary of Trasmediterránea, which we want to share with all the people who have been and are part of the company, workers and clients, the maritime sector, and institutions that collaborate day by day with the development of our activity,” highlights the general director of the Company, Mario Quero.
One hundred years later, Trasmediterránea maintains its regular passenger and cargo connections between the main ports of the peninsula, Balearic Islands, Canary Islands, Ceuta and Melilla, Morocco, and Algeria. For a century, the Company has sailed parallel to the maritime history of Spain and has been present at all major events in the country related to the environment.
The team responsible for the Centenary is preparing various events, such as a series of round tables and conferences, exhibitions, and events in the main destinations of the Company, which will be announced in due course. The website www.centenariotrasmediterranea.com is the best portal to stay well informed about the agenda of events and celebrations that have been planned.

One hundred years after its constitution, Mario Quero Gil, successor of Dr. Dómine, has been directing Trasmediterránea since 2014
