Trasmed Reintroduces the Renovated “Ciudad de Mahón”
The ferry “Ciudad de Mahón” –the third with this name in the history of the Spanish Merchant Navy and registered in the naval registry of Santa Cruz de Tenerife– has rejoined the Valencia-Ibiza route, after arriving on Monday afternoon at the port of Valencia from Naples.Starting April 9, the “Ciudad de Mahón” will also stop at the ports of Mahón and Alcudia.
After almost a month out of service, the exterior and interior image of the ship has been renewed, featuring the corporate colors of Trasmed-Grimaldi, and scrubber systems for purifying harmful gases have been installed, aiming to improve the efficiency and environmental sustainability of the fleet, as well as the refurbishment and enhancement of cabins and public spaces, the company reports.
The work carried out on Trasmed ships represents an investment of about 30 million euros. The ships “Ciudad de Palma” and “Ciudad de Mahón” have already undergone dry dock. The next will be the ship “Volcán del Teide,” which will be renamed “Ciudad de Barcelona.”
In addition to the installation of scrubbers, hull painting, and updating the interior image to that of Trasmed-Grimaldi, the “Ciudad de Mahón” has undergone interventions in the passenger area.
The terraces on the decks have been renovated, all the woodwork and seating in the cafeteria and bar area have been restored, as well as improvements in the seating lounges. The children's area has been completely renewed, and the common restrooms and self-service area have been enhanced, among many other improvements.
In the pool and shower area, significant remodeling and improvements have been made, as well as to the outdoor dog kennels and the gambuza.
Formerly “Volcán de Tijarafe,” it measures 154.35 m in length and 24.20 m in beam and is powered by two Wärtsila engines that allow it to maintain a speed of 22 knots. It has 56 cabins and 486 seats, with a total capacity for 972 passengers and 300 cars, plus 1,057 linear meters of roll-on cargo.
