Tenerife Shipyards Brings the World's Largest Vessel to Granadilla
Once again, Tenerife Shipyards demonstrates its interest and commitment to strengthening the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife as a reliable alternative in the ship repair sector. The news of the upcoming arrival of the vessel “Pioneering Spirit” with a list of tasks that will occupy three months of work docked at the port of Granadilla indicates that the company takes its mission seriously, despite the obstacles it encounters along the way.
The vessel “Pioneering Spirit” is the largest in the world. Owned by the international company Allseas, it relies on the Hidramar Group for a refit that requires extensive engineering and specialization. It measures 477 m in length and 124 m in width and has a gross tonnage of 403,342 tons. Its arrival is scheduled for October 1, and two days later it will dock in Granadilla. Its presence marks a milestone in the contemporary history of the Tenerife port, to which the shipping agent Alfaship, specialized in the offshore sector, also contributes.
The port of Granadilla is one of the few ports in the world that can accommodate such a vessel due to its dimensions. This major project, with an initial cost exceeding one million euros, will focus on tasks such as cleaning the hull, wiring, mechanical services, and painting the underwater part, involving IRATA technicians for the high-altitude work. Among the offered tasks, the dismantling of the impressive vessel's propellers stands out.
Arne Gahmig, the project superintendent, celebrates that “Allseas decides to trust Tenerife Shipyards with this major project, as it represents an important challenge and a historic victory for the Tenerife shipyard. It is a pride for me to lead the team in this new adventure.” The project, according to estimates, will begin on October 3 and conclude before January, given the extensive list of tasks to be performed on the vessel and their complexity.
This is the first project that Allseas awards to the Hidramar Group, following intense negotiations between the executives of both companies. This lays the foundation for the trust of the international company Tenerife Shipyards and its working methodology, which always prioritizes occupational safety above all and offers the highest quality in all projects it undertakes.
According to María Name, Human Resources Director, “we want this to be the beginning of a new period of prosperity and economic diversity for Tenerife. It is very positive that Allseas trusts us, as it perfectly aligns with the company's goals: to attract international wealth to the Canary Islands to reinvest that money on the island, creating new direct jobs and diversifying the economy.”
