Tenerife Ports Accesses a Floating Dock in Santa Cruz
The Port Authority of Santa Cruz de Tenerife states on its corporate page that it will "make available to Tenerife Shipyards in the first week of June" the concession of 27,448 square meters granted for the installation and operation of a floating dock and ancillary facilities for ship repair in the Tenerife port.
Of this area, 23,588 square meters correspond to water surface, 2,074.62 square meters to land area in the second alignment of the East Dock, and 1,785 square meters in the first alignment for maneuvering area.
The president of the Port Authority of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Carlos González, has highlighted the importance of this advancement with which "we will improve ship repair services in the port of Tenerife with the installation and operation of a floating dock whose activity will be a boost for this service in our port."
In this regard, he emphasized that currently "any vessel longer than 25 meters that requires dry repair must be diverted to ports that provide this service, a lack that we will solve with the availability of this new infrastructure that will be able to lift vessels up to 200 meters in length."
On December 15, 2021, the board of directors of the Port Authority agreed to expand the area of 12,048 square meters initially granted in 2015 to Tenerife Shipyards to 27,448 square meters, precisely for the purpose of installing a floating dock and ancillary facilities for its operation.
"The maximum period that Tenerife Ports had to deliver these areas at sea and on land to the concessionaire was two years after the granting of the concession. The reinforcement works of the dock that have been carried out in the East Dock, as well as the repair of the galleries in areas that were precisely the subject of this, have forced Tenerife Ports to exhaust the available period, ensuring, however, significant improvements in the port infrastructure of the area. For the delivery of the land and water surface to be fully effective, only the request for this to be made by Tenerife Shipyards for the availability of the land remains," it adds.
Granadilla Port
According to the Port Authority, "the reactivation of ship repair in the Tenerife port system as a means of generating business has been one of the priority objectives of the management of Tenerife Ports, having taken this first step in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, which is expected to be completed by developing it also in Granadilla port."
Tenerife Ports is also advancing in this area with the publication in the Official Bulletin of the Province, last Wednesday, May 24, of the announcement regarding the public information procedure on the request for substantial modification of the administrative concession granted to Tenerife Shipyards in Granadilla port in 2022, "which will also include the facilities of a floating dock."
"This initiative, which aims to increase the initially granted area, seeks to create a shipyard for dry ship repair with syncrolift and assembly of wind turbine parts, activities that would make Granadilla port the main reference for ship repair in its area of influence in the Eastern Atlantic," adds the aforementioned corporate page.
