Tallink Disconnects Engines at Värtahamnen Port
The vessels “Silja Serenade” and “Silja Symphony” from the Tallink-Silja group, which operate the regular Stockholm-Helsinki route, are the first to disconnect their auxiliary engines during their stops at Värtahamnen port in Sweden, thanks to the shore power connection. The new installation is the result of a project involving the Port Authority, the City of Stockholm, and Tallink Grupp, aimed at reducing noise levels from ships during port operations.
Tallink Grupp is working on similar projects in the ports of Helsinki and Tallinn. Two other Tallink vessels, "Baltic Queen" and "Victoria I", which operate the Stockholm-Tallinn route, have also been equipped with shore power connections. The electrical connection allows for the disconnection of all types of engines, significantly reducing noise emissions in the area, as well as inside the ship itself, which takes advantage of the stops to carry out maintenance work.
