Tailwind Shipping Lines, Lidl's Maritime Arm
Tailwind Shipping Lines is the name of Lidl's new maritime operator, following in the footsteps of Amazon, Ikea, and Walmart, to take on a significant part of its operations, which are currently in the hands of other shipping companies. Lidl aims to address the ongoing supply chain issues that are affecting logistics in the retail and consumer goods sector.
Tailwind Shipping Lines will manage the growing volume of production from all its facilities in a more flexible manner in the long term. Although initially considering investing in an existing shipping company, it ultimately decided to create its own.
Lidl is also considering air transport, as well as handling services for import and export.
