The submarine “Mistral” (S-73) decommissioned after 35 years
The submarine “Mistral” (S-73) was decommissioned yesterday from the Official List of Ships of the Navy during a ceremony held at the Submarine Base of the Cartagena Arsenal. The flag lowering ceremony was attended by a small delegation led by the admiral in charge of the Cartagena Arsenal, Vice Admiral Pedro Luis de la Puente García-Ganges, and the Admiral of Maritime Action, Vice Admiral Juan Luis Sobrino Pérez-Crespo, as well as former commanders of the ship and a commission from the Submarine Force.
The third of the four submarines of the Agosta class, also known as the Galerna class after the lead ship, is a French-designed vessel built at the shipyard of the National Company Bazán in Cartagena. In service since June 1985, it is reported to have spent 3,039 days at sea, traveled 243,468 nautical miles, and logged 69,289 hours on the surface and 43,776 hours submerged. Aboard, 218 officers, 240 non-commissioned officers, and 752 petty officers and sailors have served.
