Stranding of the veteran offshore patrol vessel “Serviola” (P-71) at the number four dock of the former ASTANO
The veteran offshore patrol vessel “Serviola” (P-71), the lead ship of its class consisting of four units, is currently stranded at the number four dock of the former ASTANO, now Navantia Fene, where it is undergoing another inspection in its long existence of 33 years of naval service since its official delivery on October 2, 1992. Our esteemed collaborator Eloy Ferreiro Nieto, who keeps an eye on everything happening in the Ferrol estuary, captured the accompanying image.
Built at the shipyard of the Empresa Nacional Bazán, Ferrol, now Navantia, this is the second vessel to bear this name in the history of the Navy. It is part of the Maritime Action Force, whose organic command is the commander of the Action Force Units and is based at the Ferrol Arsenal.
It is equipped to exercise sovereignty and protect national interests in the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), which extends up to 200 miles. For this purpose, it has a considerable autonomy (over 8,000 miles) and the capability to maintain prolonged periods at sea (over 30 days).
