Stranded Mauritanian LST Ship “Nimlane” at Repnaval
At the Repnaval Zamakona shipyard in the port of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, an atypical client is stranded, although it was there in 2017. This is the amphibious landing ship type LST “Nimlane” (L-981) of the Mauritanian Navy, which is undergoing maintenance work.
Designed and built in China, commissioned in 2017 and in service since 2020, it is a medium-type landing ship, capable of carrying two LCVPs, which can transport six tanks and troops with their full equipment. It has a helicopter deck and is armed with a 76 mm gun at the bow.
With a maximum displacement of 1,750 tons, it measures 97 m in length, 14 m in beam, and 3 m in draft. It is powered by two diesel engines that drive independent shafts and can reach a maximum speed of 18 knots.
