The ship “Zurbarán” showcases the Centenary logo of Trasmediterránea
The ship “Zurbarán” will rejoin the Barcelona-Ibiza line next Monday after its annual dry dock, during which the new Centenary logo of the company has been painted. The innovative image, presented at Fitur, maintains the Trasmediterránea brand on the side and highlights in red the 100 years of existence of the shipping company and the period 1917-2017, which encompasses the beginning of the fleet's operations.
The logo is a fusion of tradition and future, values that are rooted in the foundations of the Company that looks beyond the present without leaving behind its identity marks. It will gradually be implemented on each ship during scheduled dry docks, as well as at the company’s maritime stations and terminals.
On November 25, one hundred years will be fulfilled since the signing of the deed of incorporation of Compañía Trasmediterránea, S.A. This occurred in Barcelona, with the signatories Joaquín María Tintoré, representing Línea de Vapores Tintoré; Enrique García Corrons, director of the Sociedad Anónima Navegación e Industria; José Juan Dómine, founder of the Compañía Valenciana de Vapores Correos de África; and Vicente Ferrer Pesset, on behalf of Ferrer Pesset Hermanos.
The ship “Zurbarán” arrived at Trasmediterránea in April 2006. It is a Spanish-built vessel and is part of a group of five units contracted at origin by Cenargo International and built at the Sevilla shipyard. The fifth, with some differences from the others, was named “Murillo” and is the best of all. In June 2014, it was sold to a Bulgarian company and has since been named "Drujba".
The one in question set sail in February 2000 under the name “Northern Merchant” and covered the Dover-Dunkirk and Harwich-Esberg routes, chartered by DFDS. By the way, there was a time when all five ships coincided on the Balearic routes: “El Greco” (formerly “Midnight Merchant”) and “Murillo” from Trasmediterránea; “Blanca del Mar” (formerly “Brave Merchant”) from ISCOMAR; and “Pau Casals” (formerly “Dawn Merchant”) from Balearia.
It is a ro-pax with a capacity for 589 passengers and 1,560 linear meters of rolling cargo. It registers 22,152 gross tons, 6,645 net tons, and 7,477 deadweight tons. It measures 179.90 m in overall length, 25 m in beam, and 6.50 m in draft. Powered by four Wärtsila 9L38 engines, with a power of 31,682 horsepower over two shafts, allowing it to maintain a speed of 22 knots. IMO Code 9181091.
