Sener presents a ship to capture CO2 from other ships
The Spanish technology and engineering group Sener has presented a project for a fuel supply ship with an innovative system for capturing CO2 emissions from moored or nearby ships and their subsequent storage, contributing to reducing emissions in the ship's operational area.
According to Sener, this new ship meets the energy efficiency and emission reduction requirements of the International Maritime Organization (IMO). It also considers several configuration possibilities for shipowners, “to adapt to their technical and economic needs, depending on costs, ease of installation on board, or safety,” among other factors.
In addition to the system for capturing carbon from other ships, it has another for capturing and storing its own CO2 emissions, a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system for treating nitrogen oxides, with the help of a catalyst and various options for installing scrubber systems (whether open-loop, closed-loop, or hybrid) for capturing sulfur oxides.
