Second Delay in the Delivery of the Ship “Costa Smeralda”
The Meyer Turku shipyard has informed Carnival Group of a second delay in the delivery of the ship “Costa Smeralda”, with a gross tonnage of 180,000, now setting the new date for next December. Contrary to its usual trend, where it has even advanced dates, the Finnish shipyard states that “the delay is due to the high complexity and large size of the ship project".
However, Costa Cruises, the recipient of the new ship, maintains the date of December 21, 2019, for the departure of the first voyage, which will follow a weekly itinerary in the western Mediterranean with stops in Savona (Saturday), Marseille (Sunday), Barcelona (Monday), Palma de Mallorca (Tuesday), Civitavecchia (Thursday), and La Spezia (Friday).
Last September, Meyer Turku indicated that the new liquefied natural gas-powered ship would be delivered in mid-November, one month after the contractual date scheduled for October. The argument remains the same: "the complexity and sophistication of the ship is very high".
