Launch of the Jack-Up "Seajack Scylla" in Algeciras
The launch maneuver of the jack-up "Seajack Scylla" was successfully completed, arriving yesterday in the bay of Algeciras aboard the heavy lift vessel "Osprey". This unusual sight has understandably sparked curiosity and is newsworthy. This type of naval artifact is a floating crane that elevates above sea level, positioning the metal towers we see in the photos by our collaborator Juan Gabriel Mata on the seabed, at a maximum depth of 65 m.
These types of artifacts are used in offshore installations and setups, such as the construction of wind farms, an activity that is increasingly in demand. The transport comes from South Korea, having departed in November 2015. During the long journey, it encountered bad weather, prolonging the trip longer than expected. The decision was made to launch it in the bay of Algeciras, although its final destination is the United Kingdom, where it will be delivered to Seajacks UK Ltd.
