“Scenic Eclipse” Makes Waves at Its Debut in Málaga
Following its first stop at the port of Málaga, where its presence did not go unnoticed after its arrival yesterday, Friday, March 22, the ultra-luxury ship “Scenic Eclipse” (IMO 9797371) is heading to Marbella and will then continue to Seville. We can categorize it, as noted by veteran Málaga journalist Juan Carlos Cilveti, in the group of so-called yacht-cruises, that is, cruise ships that, due to their size and services, resemble large private recreational vessels.
Owned by Scenic Luxury Cruises & Tours, an Australian company, and registered in the Bahamas, it promotes its new ship as “the world's first discovery yacht.” Built at the Uljanik shipyard (Croatia) with the participation of the Spanish company Oliver Design, its baptism took place on September 10, 2019, at the port of New York, with actress Helen Mirren serving as godmother.
Weighing 17,545 gross tons, it measures 168 m in length and has ten decks, eight of which are dedicated to 228 passengers in 144 suites of fourteen categories, ranging from 32 to 247 square meters in size. The organization offers an “all-inclusive” package with private butlers, two helicopters, and a seven-seat submarine. Prices range from 12,000 euros per passenger for a 14-day trip to 20,000 euros for 20 days.
It will return on May 5 through the port of Málaga and, as Juan Carlos Cilveti aptly states, it is a ship “that is difficult to define and aims to surpass the most prominent and luxurious small cruise ships frequently seen in the waters of the Málaga port.”
