Santa Cruz de Tenerife, a safe anchorage
The increasing presence of LNG carriers anchoring in the shelter of Anaga has a reason. It represents a safety issue for the captains of these giants, who feel that their responsibility is more assured in a reliable anchorage. This sense of security acts as a recommendation that spreads quickly. Therefore, although it may seem novel, it is not exceptional that ships from Oryx and Aegean – bunkering companies based in Las Palmas – come to supply at the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
Another LNG carrier that arrived yesterday at the Tenerife port is called “BW GDF Suez Paris,” which we see in a photo by our collaborator Ramón Acosta Merino. Today, the ship “British Diamond” is arriving. Meanwhile, CEPSA is using the barge “Petrobay” to load fuel from its facilities in Las Palmas. A few days ago, it made one of those replenishment trips in quite bad weather. The idea is to combine both services, and it is possible that we will see supplies again at the port of Los Cristianos, both for Fred. Olsen and Naviera Armas.
