Righting the Ship 'Modern Express' Requires Time and Much Work
The images we see of the listing ship 'Modern Express' docked safely at the port of Bilbao are impressive. The first part of the process has successfully concluded after a week of uncertainty, during which maritime salvage specialists have demonstrated how things should be done to ensure success, away from the damaging influence of politicians. The ship has held up quite well during this ordeal, where, with the cargo shifted, the watertightness has performed better than expected.
The towing achieved its goal, and the ship is now being inspected by technicians from the Dutch specialized company Smit Salvage to determine the next steps to right it again. Although there is no danger of contamination, a protective floating barrier has been set up around the ship. Once secured, it will be moved to another dock to proceed with the unloading of the wood and machinery it carries. It is worth highlighting the work done by those involved in the salvage, towing, and maneuvering of the ship, who have demonstrated a high level of professional excellence.
