Work Begins to Refloat a Sunken Fishing Vessel in the Port of Xàbia
The Ministry of Environment of the Valencian Generalitat has begun the work to refloat an old fishing vessel that sank a few weeks ago in the port of Xàbia, where it had been abandoned for years.
The operation includes the refloating of the fishing vessel, its removal from the water, and its subsequent dismantling. According to the Ministry, the entire process is being carried out while ensuring the protection of the environment and avoiding any spills into the sea.
So far, the regional administration has not provided information about the identity of the vessel, the causes of the sinking, the cost of the intervention, or the expected timeline for completing the work.
However, following the announcement of the operation's start, several users on social media criticized the management of the case. A local fisherman claimed that the vessel had been releasing hydraulic oils, fuel remnants, and other pollutants into the port before sinking.
Additionally, he stated that the fishing community had previously warned about the risks posed by the state of the fishing vessel and called for a quicker response from the administration. So far, the entity has not responded to these accusations.
