Rain and Fog to Welcome the Veteran “Corinthian” in Vigo
It has its years but remains an attractive ship. It is called “Corinthian” and yesterday it was at the port of Vigo, where it coincided with the mega cruise ship “Ovation of the Seas”. It docked at its stern and almost looked like a tender next to it. It arrived early, before dawn, coming from Leixoes on its way to La Coruña, with an expedition of 85 passengers and 63 crew members. Two buses departed for contracted excursions to Compostela and Cambados. “Rainy day and, despite that, great activity in the port area” coinciding with the aforementioned Royal Caribbean ship, reports Alfredo Campos Brandón, the author of the accompanying photos.
The ship “Corinthian” is the former “Renaissance Seven,” built on behalf of the Italian company Renaissance Cruises. Throughout its 25 years of maritime life, it has borne the names “Regina Renaissance,” “Renai I,” “Sun,” and “Island Sun.” Since March 2005, it has been owned by Clipper Group and is chartered by Travel Dynamics, sailing under its current name. It has a capacity of 114 passengers and combines expedition tourism with select and thematic groups.
Construction number 1,146 from the Nuovi Cantieri Apuania shipyard, located in Marina di Carrara (Italy), entered service in December 1991. It is a ship of 4,200 gross tons with a total length of 90.60 m, a beam of 15.30 m, and a draft of 3.90 m. It is powered by two MAN-Burmeister & Wain 8L28/32A engines, with a power of 3,530 kW over two shafts, allowing it to maintain a speed of 15.5 knots. IMO Code 8802882.
