The Italian Navy Hydro-Oceanographic Ship "Quirinale" Successfully Completes Its First Sea Trials
The new hydro-oceanographic ship A5305 "Quirinale", built by Fincantieri for the Italian Navy, has successfully completed its first sea trials in the Gulf of La Spezia, a key step before its delivery, scheduled for the second half of 2027.
The sea trials, conducted six months after its launch, allowed for the testing of onboard systems, including underwater equipment and the ship's platform.
The hydro-oceanographic ship A5305 "Quirinale" measures 110 meters in length and has the capacity to carry up to 140 people, including crew and scientific personnel. Additionally, it incorporates a low-emission electric propulsion system, enabling it to operate in environmentally sensitive areas and polar regions.
This ship is designed to carry out hydrographic, oceanographic, and geophysical research. It is equipped with advanced scientific equipment, an autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV), an unmanned surface vehicle (USV), lifting systems for scientific operations, and a dynamic positioning system DP2, which allows it to maintain its position with great precision during work at sea.
This new unit will replace the ship "Ammiraglio Magnaghi".
