Barcelona Port Awards PowerCon the OPS System for Its Future Cruise Terminal Managed by Royal Caribbean Group
The Danish company PowerCon A/S has been chosen to install the OPS system at the future cruise terminal of the Port of Barcelona. Terminal G will be managed by a joint venture of Royal Caribbean Group.
The contract with the Danish company, amounting to 10.4 million euros, will last a total of five years. This period includes 22 months dedicated to the design, construction, and commissioning of the OPS system, which will allow cruise ships to connect to the port's electrical grid while docked.
The company PowerCon, specialized in port electrification, will execute the entire project. This includes both the design and construction of all necessary facilities: the connection to the medium-voltage electrical grid that the port is developing between the port substation and the Adossat dock, the cable management system to connect the ships, and the electrical substation of the terminal itself, as well as the connection, disconnection, and maintenance service.
The future Terminal G, managed by Royal Caribbean Group through Catalonia Cruise Terminal G, is designed with advanced sustainability criteria. It is expected to be operational by 2027, and its electrification will allow operations to meet more stringent environmental standards aligned with the port's climate goals.
