The Port of Vigo Unveils a Submarine Viewer to Observe the Biodiversity in the Estuary
The Port of Vigo will open to the public this Friday afternoon "Atlantis", a new submarine viewer to observe life beneath the estuary. The installation is part of the "Peiraos do Solpor" project and will allow visitors to see the marine world.
The visit will be free and will offer an immersive experience to learn about the biodiversity of the estuary. The observatory is located about 6 to 10 meters deep, depending on the tide.
Named "Atlantis", it pays tribute to the writer Jules Verne, who is closely linked to the city of Vigo and his novel 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.
Through the large windows, different species that inhabit the estuary can be observed, such as bream, sea bass, wrasse, mullet, scad, bogue, or triggerfish. Additionally, shelters for seahorses and underwater cameras have been installed to allow live monitoring of their activity.
