"Oosterdam", second call at the port of Ceuta
The ship "Oosterdam" is back today at the port of Ceuta for its second call. It arrived this morning almost shrouded in fog for an eight-hour stop, carrying a full load of nearly two thousand passengers, mostly British and American, along with about 800 crew members. It arrived from Almería and will continue its journey to Marseille, dispatched by Salama and Cía.
On May 19, it made history at the Ceuta port when it arrived for the first time and became the largest of its kind. The personal commitment of the president of the Port Authority, José Torrado, is paying off, as Holland America Line has confirmed two more calls of this ship for the remainder of the year.
The ship "Oosterdam" belongs to the "Vista" class, of which this company has three other ships named "Zuiderdam", "Westerdam", and "Noordam". It is the 6,076th construction from the Fincantieri shipyard, Porto Maghera (Italy), and entered service in July 2003, flying the flag of the Netherlands. It has a capacity for 1,968 passengers.
It registers 82,305 gross tons and 10,965 deadweight tons, with a hull measuring 289.90 m in overall length, 32.25 m in beam, and 7.80 m in draft. It is powered by a system that combines a General Electric LM2500 gas turbine and five Wärtsila-Sulzer diesel engines, allowing it to reach a maximum speed of 24 knots. IMO code 9221281.
