The expedition ship "Ocean Endeavour" faces transformation in Vigo into a flotel for a mining project in Greenland
The polar expedition cruise ship "Ocean Endeavour" (IMO 7625811) will have a new life as a residential vessel for workers on a mining project in Greenland, according to Faro de Vigo. The American company Critical Metals Corp. has acquired the ship for about 7.5 million euros.
The Portugal-flagged polar expedition cruise ship is undergoing various maintenance works in Vigo, specifically at the facilities of Metalships & Docks, part of the Rodman Group, where it arrived on June 18 and will remain until December.
Once refurbished, the ship will serve as accommodation for 300 workers of the Tanbreez project, a mining operation near Qaqortoq, Greenland, to address the lack of hotels and housing for workers.
Among the planned actions for its conversion are the tuning of the propulsion system, repainting the hull, improving thermal insulation, and refurbishing its 110 double cabins. The public spaces will remain virtually unchanged.
