No news on the Argentine submarine 'ARA San Juan'
No news on the Argentine submarine 'ARA San Juan' and as the hours pass in the search operation, pessimism is spreading, to the point that the newspaper 'La Nación' reports, citing sources from the Argentine Navy, that it is in a 'critical stage.' Experts acknowledge the difficulties the submarine may face in renewing oxygen while submerged, as it is believed to be.
A report that an object had been located about 300 kilometers off the coast and at a depth of about 70 meters, near Puerto Madryn, has not been confirmed, although it is under investigation at the reported position. Attempts at satellite communication recorded a few days ago, which were initially thought to have come from the submarine, have also been ruled out. In recent hours, weather conditions have improved after several days of strong winds and rough seas.
The search operation involves nine countries with 31 ships and 16 aircraft, scouring a wide area where the 'ARA San Juan' submarine is believed to be, after it reported its last position. There are 44 crew members on board, whose families are experiencing great anguish, and there is notable concern within the Navy, which is increasing as the hours pass.
Among the available resources is the deployment of a P8 Poseidon aircraft from the U.S. Navy, the most modern currently, equipped with sensors and other state-of-the-art equipment. Offshore vessels equipped with ROVs featuring long-range 3D sonars are also participating. Retired officers and personnel from the Argentine submarine force have joined the operation, contributing their experience.
