The New Image of the Cypriot Catamaran “Poniente Jet”
Upon its exit from the dry dock at Gibdock, this is the still partially painted maritime image of the Cypriot-flagged catamaran “Poniente Jet” (IMO 9020225), which will soon operate on the Algeciras-Tangier route for FRS Iberia. As our readers know, this is the former “HSC Ártemis”, the only vessel from the failed Ponte Ferries initiative, which aimed to establish a route between Malta and southern Sicily.
This is an aging catamaran, in service since 1999 when it debuted on the Agaete route for Fred. Olsen Express.
The vessel has well-preserved interiors, but maritime media from Malta indicate that during the time it was under the ownership of Ponte Ferries, it frequently experienced engine problems.
