The new ferry “A Galeotta” makes headlines in Marseille
With the delivery of the Cypriot-flagged vessel “A Galeotta” (IMO 9891749), the Italian shipyard Visentini inaugurates a new phase in its third generation of ro-pax type units. This is, in this case, a design by Naos Ship & Boat Design, adapted to the needs of the Marseille-Ajaccio-Bastia line.
The new vessel is making its debut at the port of Marseille, where it is making national news. It has been built on behalf of Corsica Linea and financed by Groupe Crédit Agricole. The scheduled delivery has been delayed by almost three months from the contractual date, due to delays accumulated with suppliers due to the pandemic.
Construction number 238 of Visentini Porto Viro is a vessel of 37,599 gross tons with a hull of 206.60 m in overall length, 28.20 m in beam, and 6.70 m in maximum draft. It features a new, more efficient bow design called FlexBow 2.0, fully compatible with Safe Return to Port (SRtP).
It has 216 cabins for 870 passengers and a cargo capacity of 2,563 linear meters of rolling cargo, nearly 200 meters less than the original project, due to the French operator's decision to install two type C LNG tanks of 260 cubic meters at the stern of the upper deck. On two decks, it can carry a maximum of 149 cars.
Two new-generation Wärtsila 12V50DF dual engines, with a unit power of 11,700 kW, allow it to maintain a service speed of 23 knots, although in sea trials it exceeded 27 knots. We hope it has better luck regarding breakdowns compared to its project partner “Ciudad de Valencia.”
