The Navy Trains the Peruvian Navy in the Maneuver of the Training Ship 'Unión'
During the construction, launching, and armament process of the training ship 'Unión', which was delivered on January 27 to the Peruvian Navy, the Spanish Navy has collaborated. The official ceremony was attended by the Minister of Defense, Pedro Morenés, and the Chief Admiral of the Navy Staff, Jaime Muñoz-Delgado.
Since July 2014, an officer and a non-commissioned officer from the Navy have been assigned to the Peruvian Navy as advisor-instructors during the construction period of the training ship “Unión”. These activities are a result of an agreement between both Ministries for the assignment of personnel from the Spanish Navy to the Peruvian Navy.
The collaboration consists of different phases and began at the School of Specialties of La Graña (Ferrol) with the review of maneuver plans and the development of study plans for the courses to be taught in Callao, where from September 2014 to July 2015, courses on maneuvering and navigation and the preparation of the ship's manuals have been conducted.
Subsequently, the Navy provided advice at the Sima shipyards regarding the reception of the necessary materials for the preparation of rigging and equipment according to the specifications defined in the construction documents. Additionally, the Peruvian Navy was advised on the maneuver and training characteristics.
After the delivery of the training ship “Unión”, Navy personnel will carry out the final phase of collaboration until October 2016, by which time the first training cruise for midshipmen is expected to be completed. During this period, support will be provided for sea trials for its commissioning and training navigations for the crew.
