The Navy May Leave the Foundation of Las Palmas Ports After Report Detects Possible Irregularities
The Navy may be considering leaving the Foundation of Las Palmas Ports after a report from State Ports detected possible accounting irregularities and economic losses in the entity, reports the digital canarymaritime.com.
According to military sources in the Canary Islands, the decision has not yet been made and will depend on the instructions received from the Ministry of Defense. However, the institution is analyzing its continuity in the foundation to avoid potential damage to its image.
The origin of this situation comes after State Ports requested the dissolution of the Foundation of Las Palmas Ports following an internal audit that detected significant irregularities in its economic management, personnel hiring, and contract awarding, according to maritime media in the Canary Islands.
In this regard, the Navy is part of the board of the Foundation of Las Palmas Ports and, according to Navy sources, the association with the entity could affect its institutional reputation.
