Navantia Ferrol Lays the Keel of the F 113 Frigate "Menéndez de Avilés", Seven Months Ahead of Schedule
Navantia Ferrol has taken a new step in the construction of the F110 frigates with the laying of the keel of the F113 frigate "Menéndez de Avilés" at its Ferrol shipyard. The construction of this frigate is progressing seven months ahead of schedule, confirming the good pace of the project.
The keel-laying ceremony was presided over by the Director General of Armament and Material, Admiral Aniceto Rosique, and the President of Navantia, Ricardo Domínguez, along with representatives from the Navy and the Ministry of Defense.
From now on, the F113 frigate "Menéndez de Avilés", destined for the Navy, will continue with the assembly of the various blocks until its launching.
Meanwhile, the other frigates in the program are also progressing. The F111 "Bonifaz", the most advanced of the series, is already afloat and is in the phase of installation and commissioning of its main systems before starting sea trials, ahead of its expected delivery in 2028.
For its part, the F112 "Roger de Lauria" frigate has practically completed its structure and is preparing to be launched after the summer. The F114 "Luis de Córdova" is still in the early stages of construction.
The F110 frigates will be the future escort vessels of the Navy, prepared to carry out anti-submarine, anti-air, and anti-surface defense missions, in addition to responding to new threats and hybrid warfare scenarios.
