Navantia Begins Sea Trials of Submarine S 82 "Narciso Monturiol" in Cartagena Waters
The S-82 submarine "Narciso Monturiol" has begun sea trials with its first navigation in the waters of Cartagena, a key milestone within the S-80 program developed by Navantia for the Navy.
This first outing to sea has been conducted on the surface using the propulsion systems of the submarine itself. During the navigation, various checks of the different equipment and systems have been carried out, a fundamental step towards its delivery to the Navy, scheduled for before the end of the year.
This model is the second submarine of the S-80 plus series and is named after the Catalan engineer and inventor Narciso Monturiol, a pioneer of underwater navigation in the 19th century and creator of the experimental submarine Ictíneo.
The S-80 series represents a significant technological leap for the Spanish Submarine Force thanks to the incorporation of advanced combat, navigation, sensor, and strategic capabilities. These units are designed to carry out missions of surveillance, intelligence, maritime space control, naval force protection, and special operations.
