“MSC Gülsün”, the largest in the world in its class, arrives in Algeciras
The container ship “MSC Gülsün”, currently the largest in the world in its class, arrived yesterday on its maiden voyage at the APM terminal in the port of Algeciras. On July 8, it set sail from the port of Xingang (China) towards Northern Europe, as part of the 2M alliance with Maersk.
This is the first of a series of 11 units with a capacity of 23,000 TEUs contracted by Mediterranean Shipping Co. (MSC). It has been built at the South Korean shipyard Samsung Heavy Industries and will deliver the remaining ten units over the next eight months.
The “MSC Gülsün” measures 400 m in length, a standard dimension for the latest mega container ships, although the beam increases from 59 m to 61.50 m, allowing for an additional nominal capacity of 1,500 TEUs compared to other vessels in operation.
