The megaship “MSC Euribia” continues to take risks and successfully crosses the Suez Canal with the AIS turned off
The megaship "MSC Euribia" (IMO 9901544), flagged in Malta, has reappeared on maritime tracking systems after several days without emitting a signal. After passing through the Strait of Hormuz, where it was trapped until April 19, the vessel has crossed another risky area: the Suez Canal.
Instead of opting to go around Africa, the megaship "MSC Euribia" navigated through the Red Sea and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait with the AIS system turned off to avoid problems with Houthi rebels and thus arrive on time in Northern Europe, where it expects to join the tourist season in the Norwegian fjords on May 17.
The ship is commanded by Italian captain Lauro Maresca, who has already become a hero to many after a journey marked by strategic decisions and many risks. The captain, who shares his exploits on social media, has explained that beyond technique, he has had to rely on trust and determination to overcome these extreme situations.
