Meyer Papenburg delivers the British megaship “Arvia”
The Meyer Papenburg shipyard has delivered the new British-flagged vessel “Arvia” (IMO 9849603) to P&O Cruises this Thursday, a repeat of the “Iona” ship project delivered in 2020. It is powered by a dual diesel-electric system for liquefied natural gas consumption, with which it has conducted sea trials, although it will be more widely used when the prices of this type of fuel are favorable.
It is a Helios Excellence class ship, with a gross tonnage of 184,700 tons, a length of 344.50 m, and a beam of 42 m. It is powered by a Mak Caterpillar diesel-electric system, with an output of nearly 100,000 horsepower, allowing it to maintain a speed of 17 knots.
It has a maximum capacity for 6,264 passengers in 2,610 cabins and 1,762 crew members. The construction contract amounts to 790 million euros, about 950 million dollars.
It offers its guests a wide range of sports and entertainment programs. One of its attractions will be the SkyDome, an entertainment area with a pool whose glass dome can be opened in warmer areas.
